Dynamic Speed Control For A Wheelchair
Project Type: Senior Engineering Capstone Project (Team)
Duration: September - December 2022
During my senior capstone project at MIT for 2.009 Project Engineering Processes, I worked on a team of 15 to design a device that automatically limits the speed of a wheelchair going down a slope in order to prevent uncontrolled descent. The product was design to minimize hand burns on wheelchair users and prevent loss of control over the wheelchair.
I conducted user studies and co-designed mechanical components to ensure easy removal of wheels while still enabling breaking of the wheelchair. At the end of the semester, we performed a live demo and I spoke on the key features and use cases of our product.
